Project Spotlight: Garage Turned Spacious Laundry Room
The clients of this remodel project came to us with their vision of wanting a spacious and organized laundry room combined with a craft/workspace that brought in natural light and had a peaceful, uplifting energy. Their existing laundry room was small and drab, located in their basement along with a makeshift office space. Both homeowners used the existing laundry room and office area frequently and found the space to be quite inconvenient, both location and lighting-wise. These homeowners had a lot of extra garage space that was not being used in their day to day lives and they were interested in better utilizing that space to fit their needs.
The home’s layout originally had a 2-car garage, but prior owners had added on an additional 2-car garage that was going unused by the current homeowners. We built up the floor in the extra garage to match the level of the kitchen and converted the space into a lovely laundry room/sewing room/work room area that is spacious, accessible from the kitchen as well as from outside, brings in plenty of natural light, and even features a half bathroom. This remodel is so unique to the lifestyle and wants of the homeowner and we love that about this project! Not everyone thinks of a laundry room remodel as a dream come true, but for this homeowner it was, and if any space makes laundry enjoyable it’s this one.
We also loved that these clients were open to using some color in their new space and brought inspiration from their antiques and other parts of the home. The rest of the home was a midcentury style mixed with a bit of modern, and the client’s taste is very craftsman and traditional. In their living room they had a beautiful craftsman style rug that gave us the inspiration for the green island in the new laundry room and the tile in the backsplash. This new laundry room is a sort of blend of craftsman and midcentury that came together quite well. By far the best part of this project was achieving everything the clients hoped of for this space!
