Trends for the New Year
We blinked, and 2022 arrived! We’ve rounded up the most anticipated interior design trends for the new year and boiled them down to concepts that we’re looking forward to incorporating into designs, and practicing in our lives, all in the spirit of renovating for the better in every chapter of life.
Ditch the All-White Kitchen & Express Yourself
Scroll through Pinterest and the all-white kitchen inspo for your home remodel never ends. At its best, a white kitchen brings a sense of openness, elegance, and tidiness. At its worst, an all-white kitchen can lack emotion and give off the vibe of a sterilized hospital room. The need for comforting colors and self-expression through material selections has been on the rise and will continue into 2022 and beyond. If white quartz countertops and white cabinets are your jam, don’t fret! You can pair these with greens, blues, and warmer neutral tones to bring more emotion, humanness, or feelings of nature into your space. A little can go a long way. This trend is all about finding the material selections that make you feel good…because being happy in your home will always be in style.
Bring the Spa to You
We know that homeowners are often planning remodel projects with the intent that this will be their forever home, which means ease of access is a priority, especially in the bathroom. With ease of access in mind, some homeowners choose not to feature a bathtub in their master bathroom design. Understandable! Recently, though, bathtubs are rising in popularity and back on more wish lists as homeowners are seeking to bring the feeling of the spa into their own home. Freestanding tubs, infrared saunas, separate his and hers master bathroom suites, spacious infinity showers…we’re seeing the want for designs that bring both peace and luxury to the home. With lowered stress comes better health, something we all deserve, and what better place to find that feeling of serenity than within our own homes.
Harmonize the Old and New
As residential remodel contractors who work on many historic homes in Boise every year, we love seeing the growing appreciation for craftsmanship and the harmonizing of old and new. It’s an honor to be trusted with renovating century old homes, and we know the importance of paying homage to the original style of a space, repurposing materials throughout the remodel, and finding the perfect blend of old and new. We’re seeing continuous growth in the want and need for the best parts of older ways of living, paired with the best parts of modern-day amenities. Re-using and repurposing, unique artwork, curated antiques, shopping small and local. As time seems to speed up and every year is more chaotic than the last, we’re seeing a greater appreciation for craftsmanship, artisanship, and curated spaces.
Trends largely come about as a response to current events and our shared feelings about society and the world around us. The messages we’re seeing from major trends right now somewhat contradict themselves: the desire to boldly express ourselves and treat ourselves juxtaposed with the want for simplicity and old-world methods of living. For 2022, we think the message is that you can take the best parts of all these things and find the unique balance that works best for you when renovating your home, lifestyle, or even your mindset. If you find yourself wanting some help with the home remodeling part, give us a call. Cheers, and Happy New Year!
